It was made with the same fabric as the <a href="http://somethinginthewayshesews.blogspot.com/2011/07/finished-object-blue-sorbetto-top.html">Blue Sorbetto</a>, which I think is lovely and I wish I had bought more.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The bodice is from Burda Style 02-2011-101 and the skirt is a simple circle skirt from 'The Party Dress Book' so I had less bulk at the waist and more fullness at the hem. It went together really quickly and it was all done in a few hours. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTpTlApGHvntsCTk3HUu-VqMjkYIiw9VkjeAlI_iXqZDe8XXN4bNDr6CqyZHdtFU4v6zHXlHvj5HH1bB8VAXiK5LoS01-qo4Qe4fYVLM-ZBnOiREEJjSxyuHXaqMYuTd2gKkahyphenhyphen4j2Q4Y/s1600/02-2011-101+technical+drawing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTpTlApGHvntsCTk3HUu-VqMjkYIiw9VkjeAlI_iXqZDe8XXN4bNDr6CqyZHdtFU4v6zHXlHvj5HH1bB8VAXiK5LoS01-qo4Qe4fYVLM-ZBnOiREEJjSxyuHXaqMYuTd2gKkahyphenhyphen4j2Q4Y/s1600/02-2011-101+technical+drawing.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I reviewed the February Burda Style <a href="http://somethinginthewayshesews.blogspot.com/2011/01/my-burda-style-022011-picks-preview.html">here</a> and said that I hoped that it would fit better than the similar vintage patterns that I had tried making, and I really like how this fits. I was really worried as I was making it that it was going to be too small, and I nearly put it aside, so I am so glad I didn't.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-66x5vnoqayZCCNsj3WLCRqaQ2-x8sSIoXrWI7s7uSE-FOXH_UL42DaJ0V111IJxPJgybsQ0rZe1DOAfoLYCJDlmQZN1GhgFiiIM70WjkzlF2Ab2_ctUoOHY3iymaPBU9xrFbiElNv6Q/s1600/101+bodice.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-66x5vnoqayZCCNsj3WLCRqaQ2-x8sSIoXrWI7s7uSE-FOXH_UL42DaJ0V111IJxPJgybsQ0rZe1DOAfoLYCJDlmQZN1GhgFiiIM70WjkzlF2Ab2_ctUoOHY3iymaPBU9xrFbiElNv6Q/s320/101+bodice.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Looking at the Burdastyle <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/022011-dress-with-gathered-rectangle-skirt-and-cap-sleeves/finished_projects">Finished Projects</a> I can see that this is a really popular dress and it is universally flattering, and I think this is down to the grown on cap sleeves which gives a lovely hourglass shape. You can see even more versions of this dress on 'The Sew Weekly' and the 'One Dress, Seven Bloggers' sewalong.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPu0MxXokzK9mtuIGg3y4rkn5oZ-IPRRY6XnQ6kn0BywGxKLsJvzY3MOWeNijwJIKduf-mz1350FM662tcetlX6F3kgjqqL7egEzmNJ6KzY6TC9kS3vwYgN_oCJbTNuvUcZkAFY-x_qLY/s1600/101+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPu0MxXokzK9mtuIGg3y4rkn5oZ-IPRRY6XnQ6kn0BywGxKLsJvzY3MOWeNijwJIKduf-mz1350FM662tcetlX6F3kgjqqL7egEzmNJ6KzY6TC9kS3vwYgN_oCJbTNuvUcZkAFY-x_qLY/s320/101+back.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>I am on holiday in Montreal right now and it is boiling hot, so if I could change one thing about this dress I would have self lined it as the fabric is cotton and could have been a lot cooler than the rather cheap lining that I used. I went to a bookshop today and found something rather exciting, so I'll post on that soon. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3rsLNkQm7PuanNqFK4f1haR_PjWyZr6xaKjn5PbRde3EwtBtdc0lqrqpKQpxO2q0bAUfAQ8C7LuUcnPTDE9hWMGCNqhgDAr266ki7ORnIzI3wa-Wo4KTOwNagffXHhVTSxjxKJtbTc8o/s1600/101+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3rsLNkQm7PuanNqFK4f1haR_PjWyZr6xaKjn5PbRde3EwtBtdc0lqrqpKQpxO2q0bAUfAQ8C7LuUcnPTDE9hWMGCNqhgDAr266ki7ORnIzI3wa-Wo4KTOwNagffXHhVTSxjxKJtbTc8o/s320/101+front.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I think everyone should make this dress and thanks to Burdastyle everyone can get hold of the pattern <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/022011-dress-with-gathered-rectangle-skirt-and-cap-sleeves">here</a>.</div><br />
</div>Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-58629408263526469052011-07-20T17:57:00.000+01:002011-07-20T17:57:38.358+01:00Finished Object - Blue Sorbetto Top<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I too have jumped on the Sorbetto top bandwagon from Colette Patterns, which is available <a href="http://www.colettepatterns.com/blog/colette-patterns-news/free-pattern-to-download-the-sorbetto-top">here</a>. It is perhaps a little too short to wear with trousers, but the length works well with skirts, and I was working with very little fabric.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0fvKEXW4K6Co469P5AGwARtFvZO7fuaoju_uU6eWdRonw9xvtqH7HesnbrNdfO10SUs8AQ3YLowGM7jKYilCfb1HCNqMqqpoNVu7NaaAGWDWiiMnHTKC-0DvA9txi83dy-YSZS2s_FQc/s1600/Blue+sorbetto+close-up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0fvKEXW4K6Co469P5AGwARtFvZO7fuaoju_uU6eWdRonw9xvtqH7HesnbrNdfO10SUs8AQ3YLowGM7jKYilCfb1HCNqMqqpoNVu7NaaAGWDWiiMnHTKC-0DvA9txi83dy-YSZS2s_FQc/s320/Blue+sorbetto+close-up.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is actually the second time that I have sewn a top from this pattern, and while I'm still undecided about whether I like the first version or not, I like this version very much. I think that the top is an excellent basic and many pattern companies have patterns for similar tops, the advantage that the Sorbetto has is that it has very generously been offered for free since Grosgrain's <a href="http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2011/05/free-pattern-month-day-24-colette.html">free pattern month</a>. It is also very easy and very fast to make so it's great for beginners.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNDsJ5j1Y_MmIk0lhUoOv4joSaPz8fZd4XpZDC3Kod3914UuTJ_A5gxa3d54az9rF9dMad2IZLr8UjnaHdmA-O14yYdp7jXxy57lwsFWS41i0-vof2ZpZeD-YzxPfUzXvx2B4BnC4c8QM/s1600/Blue+sorbetto.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNDsJ5j1Y_MmIk0lhUoOv4joSaPz8fZd4XpZDC3Kod3914UuTJ_A5gxa3d54az9rF9dMad2IZLr8UjnaHdmA-O14yYdp7jXxy57lwsFWS41i0-vof2ZpZeD-YzxPfUzXvx2B4BnC4c8QM/s320/Blue+sorbetto.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This top used barely over half a metre of fabric, and I used scraps to make the bias binding. The piece of fabric I used was itself a scrap from a dress that I have recently made. I bought the fabric on a recent trip to Walthamstow Market for £1 or £2 per metre, so this was a very cheap top to make. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Overall, I can strongly recommend making this top to sewers of all abilities.</div>Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-65489409375545769572011-07-17T07:47:00.000+01:002011-07-17T07:47:42.368+01:00Burda Style 08/2011 - Full Preview<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikTa_BK3jRZDl_4WW0d6YMOuLcrCgAPBJXCmPd9BnzCeBSpu37rBxw_kFW8SB7eXymqITCJwmZPdVGLkWZEc5Xwa0OXFxKLvEumX5gBmHeN4FGLKSxMHM3GrqXrMxLxAPfDj0jelhCrXo/s1600/cover.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikTa_BK3jRZDl_4WW0d6YMOuLcrCgAPBJXCmPd9BnzCeBSpu37rBxw_kFW8SB7eXymqITCJwmZPdVGLkWZEc5Xwa0OXFxKLvEumX5gBmHeN4FGLKSxMHM3GrqXrMxLxAPfDj0jelhCrXo/s1600/cover.png" /></a></div><br />
<br />
When I first saw the August Burda Style preview I felt a little underwhelmed, but now that I have been through it with a fine-toothed comb I see that actually there are quite a few good patterns with only one or two 'What were they thinking?' garments.<br />
<br />
So here are a few of my favourite patterns from next month's Burda Style:<br />
<br />
<u>116 Dress</u><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijk-9eXVIWV4JSe7fNbSgZlTm1DQvvKNqPUb_DGGOOJbMZCUiXV5P-1T3bEUMw4rqW2EQMASnkTjV_T1FQ7IVqgllZ76TfI5xCam5gkyOU-6P5730N1JIfckXoG0ld1wiVaMGSAY3wGH4/s1600/116+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijk-9eXVIWV4JSe7fNbSgZlTm1DQvvKNqPUb_DGGOOJbMZCUiXV5P-1T3bEUMw4rqW2EQMASnkTjV_T1FQ7IVqgllZ76TfI5xCam5gkyOU-6P5730N1JIfckXoG0ld1wiVaMGSAY3wGH4/s320/116+dress.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My favourite thing about this dress has to be the cowl neck, closely followed by the cap sleeves. I have seen a few bloggers favouring this neckline recently, as well as a few shops.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmV0DW_rFXSmHFv5EtcHhjM6E3loCRdXSQnDvBZBL2KDGHtjTRkRlemM2r-J5HeQXOmOhi8O2vUg34uOvhpGVlvYupzyjkWbYc5V2i7Ahuj0SI4Q3DJ8jXmw3pwcTlRUujqeTHQBMWSnc/s1600/116+dress+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmV0DW_rFXSmHFv5EtcHhjM6E3loCRdXSQnDvBZBL2KDGHtjTRkRlemM2r-J5HeQXOmOhi8O2vUg34uOvhpGVlvYupzyjkWbYc5V2i7Ahuj0SI4Q3DJ8jXmw3pwcTlRUujqeTHQBMWSnc/s320/116+dress+2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It would clearly look best in a fabric with good drape to get the full effect.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivgqnlQemUDikEHus6mhm6nGWBw0FZv3Lnkk_odckvTHOSKAN2xmQiaIQy-VzFxLOclTHadY8fYRBt1DdQh8SzUtpYRju13_KYehZxGhFfG4_wIsqE9aL3GTZaD9j1G8N2SvJLKtpVMRY/s1600/116+dress+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivgqnlQemUDikEHus6mhm6nGWBw0FZv3Lnkk_odckvTHOSKAN2xmQiaIQy-VzFxLOclTHadY8fYRBt1DdQh8SzUtpYRju13_KYehZxGhFfG4_wIsqE9aL3GTZaD9j1G8N2SvJLKtpVMRY/s320/116+dress+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And who doesn't love pockets.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><u>119 Dress</u></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikCmvUDxbnC1zETchiCPD9hRtJvJvzzOMxs_HueJ0oD89Vw-_5q0xDe546XZZBV5YIXxcW9f8nrwZS0PJpss5NqpSrhxi7wiSdD7Y4ICV9enXgQj-B5ozkBR18tSSoorDsJPiqiVVkruI/s1600/119+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikCmvUDxbnC1zETchiCPD9hRtJvJvzzOMxs_HueJ0oD89Vw-_5q0xDe546XZZBV5YIXxcW9f8nrwZS0PJpss5NqpSrhxi7wiSdD7Y4ICV9enXgQj-B5ozkBR18tSSoorDsJPiqiVVkruI/s320/119+dress.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I think this is a lovely ladylike dress, the temptation to try to recreate it with a similar fabric is very high.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqMj3LsY1C92GX26mOa0YXCaQhzBkvH9DXwUUnO1DarneqqBTYhel0gfrw3-75yOGg7bPN4vDxdTTFjlirQJ-Q7_oQFch8GNlyavWTaRmHzton69Wa9ZrjK9mBCKa4Q27f2-5Vn5ieztE/s1600/119+dress+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqMj3LsY1C92GX26mOa0YXCaQhzBkvH9DXwUUnO1DarneqqBTYhel0gfrw3-75yOGg7bPN4vDxdTTFjlirQJ-Q7_oQFch8GNlyavWTaRmHzton69Wa9ZrjK9mBCKa4Q27f2-5Vn5ieztE/s320/119+dress+2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">It has an interesting high back neck, which I wouldn't usually go for, but I think it works here</div><br />

I think my last post was in April, and since then I have revised for and sat my A Levels and turned 19. I have, since finishing my exams, completed quite a few garments, some of which I have been brave enough to wear outside.<br />
<br />
I think many sewers/stitchers/seamstresses share my terror that my garment will fall apart in public. This is I hope common only in beginners, hopefully as my experience grows so will my confidence. <br />
<br />
I have some exciting (for me at least) plans for a sewing challenge, but on that I shall say more later!<br />
<br />
I also plan on bringing back the monthly burda previews as I love burda style, even though some of the patterns are a bit out there. Many of the garments I have made recently have come from burda style magazines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhelJ6IBA4pHhn9tUM5NCzemYkppwYbbucEEnZvaSfhlQfimsnpw0iiM58qrBL_KC_L03nJ1kHrre_0GFynWuEHcd0H0nb6BxnGEcamf_sYltb1LDMJtT4EKdndEhcQPfW571G280d7q3c/s1600/burda_style_6_2011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhelJ6IBA4pHhn9tUM5NCzemYkppwYbbucEEnZvaSfhlQfimsnpw0iiM58qrBL_KC_L03nJ1kHrre_0GFynWuEHcd0H0nb6BxnGEcamf_sYltb1LDMJtT4EKdndEhcQPfW571G280d7q3c/s320/burda_style_6_2011.jpg" width="252" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Burda Style 06/2011 in particular has been great.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So hopefully I can back into the swing of things and start posting again, because as I have said many times before on this blog, the sewing community is a hugely supportive and inspiring group of people.</div>Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-83257537214703625982011-04-24T15:00:00.003+01:002011-04-24T15:00:05.284+01:00Finished Object - White Floral Dress<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is a frankenpattern of New Look 6805 and the Burdastyle Linda circle skirt.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

These posts seem pretty popular, so I'll continue reviewing them, but I don't think they will ever be as good as the Burda Previews by <a href="http://selfishseamstress.wordpress.com/">The Selfish Seamstress</a>.<br />

So here are some of my favourites:<br />

I'm likely to continue to be a bad blogger for the next two months, which is when my last exam ends.<br />
<br />
Since I stopped blogging I have made:<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;"><li>A floral pleated skirt which had until recently been shoved to the bottom of the UFO bag. </li>
<li>Simplicity 2250 Jacket in blue, much like how it look on the pattern envelope.</li>
</ul><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/simplicity/2250/2250.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/simplicity/2250/2250.jpg" width="222" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>New Look 6805 in white floral print</li>
</ul><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/newlook/6805/6805.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/newlook/6805/6805.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>and a few other garments which are not yet complete.</li>
</ul><div><br />
</div><div>And since we're looking at patterns here are two new ones I got this past week:</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Simplicity 4601</li>

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Hopefully my time management skills will improve and there will be a few more blog posts around here!</div></div><div><br />

Couldn't get no worse.<br />
<br />
The full preview of burda 04/2011 isn't here yet, but I have seen a sneak peek and while it's not fantastic, I think it's a vast improvement on last month's offering. I'm still debating whether I should buy the March issue, I hate having a gap in the collection. If you want to have a look at the preview click <a href="http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.burdastyle.de/trends/news/burda-style-04-2011-erste-vorschau-auf-das-april-heft_aid_3513.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dburda%2Bde%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26prmd%3Divns&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&twu=1&usg=ALkJrhjNDMNsT2f1PAGszrPgfzTh6SkWOg">here</a>. Or if you want to look at the March review click <a href="http://somethinginthewayshesews.blogspot.com/2011/02/burda-032011-disappointment.html">here</a>.<br />
<br />
So here are what I consider to be the better garments in next month's burda:<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

For me? I was surprised to win an award of any sort, so I am very grateful to the both lovely and stylish Suzie at <a href="http://su-sews-so-so.blogspot.com/">Su Sews So-So</a> and Winnie at <a href="http://scruffybadgertime.co.uk/wp/2011/02/stylish-scruffy/">Scruffy Badger Time</a> for recognising me and my little blog.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Part one</b><br />
So here are seven things which you may not know about me:<br />
<br />
1. <b>I want to study history at university</b>, right now I'm doing my A Levels with a mixture of working from home and individual tuition. I really love history, and it runs in my family; my father studied History and my sister is doing a degree in History of Art!<br />
<br />
2. This you may have gathered from my previous point: <b>I live at home</b>. I haven't yet flown the nest and in terms of sewing this means that I'm pretty well off; we have lots of space for cutting things out, I get pocket money for buying fabric, and they don't mind the noise from my sewing machine. Contrast this with what it's going to be like living at university where I'll have no space, very little spare money and other students complaining about my sewing machine being too loud.<br />
<br />
3. <b>I play the guitar and ukulele</b>, not very well, but I'm certainly passable. I am self taught, I had tried to learn with a tutor when I was 11 and that didn't work, but when I picked it up myself it became fun. I am so grateful that my parents just let me stop when I wanted to as I probably wouldn't be finding the enjoyment from it that i do today.<br />
<br />
4. <b>I have an adorable little yorkshire terrier called George</b>. I just find him so cute, all he wants from life is puppy treats and a tummy rub, both of which I provide in abundance.<br />
<br />
5.<b>I have never had any sewing lessons</b>; I could have done textiles for GCSE but there were so many other subjects that I wanted to do that it didn't ever cross my mind. When I'm trying to put in a zipper, or I can't sort out the tension on my machine, I think back to and curse the day I didn't choose to do textiles, it would have been jolly helpful.<br />
<br />
6. <b>I love to walk</b>, I hated it for years because I just couldn't see the point, but now nothing can help lift my low spirits than a walk in Richmond Park when it's sunny.<br />
<br />
7. <b>I am very shy</b> (huge understatement), but having this blog is so good for me in so many ways. It had got me actually meeting complete strangers in an unknown part of London to go fabric shopping, I was absolutely terrified, but I had a fantastic time. I now talk to people about sewing and other people have lovely things to say about my blog and it's contents. I am just overwhelmed at the friendliness of the online sewing community.<br />
<br />
<b>Part two</b><br />
Here are 7 super stylish and lovely people that I want to learn more about<br />

<br />
My next project is a very simple elastic-waist skirt, based on instructions from the <a href="http://freshlypicked.blogspot.com/2010/02/elastic-waist-skirt-tutorial-mama.html">Freshly Picked skirt tutorial.</a><br />

<div>You may recognise the fabric photo from my last post, it was a 80cm remnant, bought for £1.50, and the elastic only cost me 50p. So this project will be a bargain at £2!</div><div><br />
</div><div>But I cant help feeling that my progress is a little slow with this challenge. The goal is to create a small number of garments that go well together in a spring palette of your choosing. And I feel that maybe the quality of the garments that I'm making isn't high enough, or that maybe I chose the wrong colours. I don't know, maybe I should change my plans? I just want to reach a stage where I can be proud to wear the clothes that I make. I think this is something that every beginner goes through, so please tell me I'm not alone in this.</div></div>Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-66693001830384320782011-02-24T07:22:00.000+00:002011-02-24T07:22:05.420+00:00Walthamstow Shopping Frenzy<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">On Saturday I went to Walthamstow Market for a bit of a fabric frenzy. There were (I think) 13 of us altogether and we battled through the rain in search of bargains. I didn't take a single photo, and I don't want to take one without permission, so go to <a href="http://didyoumakethat.wordpress.com/2011/02/19/its-not-an-addiction-its-a-hobby/">did you make that?</a> or <a href="http://www.tillyandthebuttons.com/2011/02/walthamstow-fabric-shopping-blogger.html">tilly and the buttons</a> to see some. (On a side note: I am in one of those pictures, can you guess which is me?)<br />
<br />
I'll say right now that I went a bit overboard, I really did buy too much fabric. SO much fabric that in order to show you it I'm going to have to organise it into categories. But I do want to point out that I didn't buy any fabric that cost more than £2 a metre.<br />
<br />
So lets get on with it.<br />

I didn't use a pattern, I just made a mark every three inches along my fabric and went from there.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8lA_c8NTLqyUI_rcethnFx2zpnzsymagW8L3iwMtsnh9BgTOamvrJYT8pYlCn4r4sGVaVqoFdFq_P0c6VKkZe0T4BiG1NqKyVEk2yltuLHCLTN5NJhTeoKDZOYbmES5gmA_wvEPJIcu0/s1600/Photo+on+2011-02-17+at+15.51+%25233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8lA_c8NTLqyUI_rcethnFx2zpnzsymagW8L3iwMtsnh9BgTOamvrJYT8pYlCn4r4sGVaVqoFdFq_P0c6VKkZe0T4BiG1NqKyVEk2yltuLHCLTN5NJhTeoKDZOYbmES5gmA_wvEPJIcu0/s320/Photo+on+2011-02-17+at+15.51+%25233.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Overall I'm quite pleased with it, in reality it's a much brighter yellow, but the lighting in these photos is terrible, so awful that my knees look purple!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRNU-rAy77or9WpgC_GxFDwG62YYrP2C1QMaLbebA7eRZdGGP4VG7CaWLdNOyF3SJ5TzrrGVaR-Y5EsVBeAEOgCOal0O2MQipreiSHQERUMlGZz7KZl7_-zWVNt5g1i7Jp-Xy2eTJQKYI/s1600/Photo+on+2011-02-17+at+15.51+%25234.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRNU-rAy77or9WpgC_GxFDwG62YYrP2C1QMaLbebA7eRZdGGP4VG7CaWLdNOyF3SJ5TzrrGVaR-Y5EsVBeAEOgCOal0O2MQipreiSHQERUMlGZz7KZl7_-zWVNt5g1i7Jp-Xy2eTJQKYI/s320/Photo+on+2011-02-17+at+15.51+%25234.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I feel embarrassed about posting this picture because it looks like I'm flashing or showing my underwear, but really this is just an extra skirt with an elastic waistband that I made to make the skirt more opaque and a bit pouffier. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpAs-KPyVY3ML5-wY_J4bGP-WDc7vUOQgzMsysgxK0JbS8Xt32sf9b1ceWhhH8545MBEMd3y3KftIJeQepuvZiTnl28v5qXFGsOzacAIcWkZ4OJ9BlQjhZ0MIa99la5xBADUMyrwo7KlE/s1600/Photo+on+2011-02-17+at+15.51+%25235.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpAs-KPyVY3ML5-wY_J4bGP-WDc7vUOQgzMsysgxK0JbS8Xt32sf9b1ceWhhH8545MBEMd3y3KftIJeQepuvZiTnl28v5qXFGsOzacAIcWkZ4OJ9BlQjhZ0MIa99la5xBADUMyrwo7KlE/s320/Photo+on+2011-02-17+at+15.51+%25235.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">But I think it also looks nice flattened down a bit.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now, I had serious trouble with the zipper:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div>It sticks out like a sore thumb. Its too long and I put it in by hand, I also don't really know how to put a zip into a pleated skirt and make it invisible. If anyone knows if there's a tutorial out there I would be really grateful for a link.<br />

This is a photo of my new top (it goes with my spring palette), I wish I had made it myself. Maybe I'll try to copy it.<br />
<br />
And lastly, it is absolutely essential that I end the post like every other blogger that makes a full skirt; with a twirl!<br />

(My mother bought 6 romances) . But it was a good book.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxLeKVDSjkQP6fiWDm3Ro5FwI3zd0vqXA8Zz5E0HLTKbBBoSfqJfPxSsmt53V2b6EdjNSbnCJo49Oan2obpES-VcwfGss9TAXmhwUufNvhH6WGIB1tTub7QgRxThox11Y_M2bMgTVa0PE/s1600/9781600851216.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxLeKVDSjkQP6fiWDm3Ro5FwI3zd0vqXA8Zz5E0HLTKbBBoSfqJfPxSsmt53V2b6EdjNSbnCJo49Oan2obpES-VcwfGss9TAXmhwUufNvhH6WGIB1tTub7QgRxThox11Y_M2bMgTVa0PE/s320/9781600851216.jpg" width="284" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>It was LITTLE GREEN DRESSES by Tina Sparkles, it is heavily focused on reusing materials and refashioning thrifted items such as a coat into a mini-skirt. But the best thing about the book is that it provides you with the instructions and diagrams for making a basic bodice, sleeve and skirt, all using your exact measurements. It then throughout the book shows you how to adapt these patterns into tops, skirts, dresses, shorts, playsuits and leggings. I strongly recommend you buy this book if you want to get into patternmaking, but felt a bit daunted by the more complicated 'Metric Pattern Cutting' or similar.<br />
<br />
So I decided to get cracking on the basic bodice as I have had problems in the past getting vintage sewing patterns to fit my narrow ribcage and larger bust.<br />
<br />
So here is the first draft with some alterations<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8TO4tyu7brwUXDgngobPMvrow_iDv0IB_ab98UKH-aYg4MuYxGB3A6miQw3PFgnUAhxtxt4YKJW3aO_8Xce5JNEDziUQBv3lqEU0WcFZdey9TXbmkT2UTmGF-LVWuj4VXK9FQysz4Eqw/s1600/Photo+on+2011-02-13+at+09.19.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8TO4tyu7brwUXDgngobPMvrow_iDv0IB_ab98UKH-aYg4MuYxGB3A6miQw3PFgnUAhxtxt4YKJW3aO_8Xce5JNEDziUQBv3lqEU0WcFZdey9TXbmkT2UTmGF-LVWuj4VXK9FQysz4Eqw/s320/Photo+on+2011-02-13+at+09.19.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Front</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I think the main problem is the extra fabric in my upper chest, I'm really not sure how I fix this problem. It might not be a problem when I lower the neckline, but is this just laziness? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA8VPtf0dazrxzcbS1FJXwwRSon4KuPhy52eGrhW9XwViToIKuiv_jpIbQeT_dWJCpRKqac29Xrst-qXdpyoOHIXc-Tlzynom8wP9Xmb5U10jzlyJqO7tgv0I7X7j47LnVIc9KnG9SpV8/s1600/Photo+on+2011-02-13+at+09.20+%25233.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA8VPtf0dazrxzcbS1FJXwwRSon4KuPhy52eGrhW9XwViToIKuiv_jpIbQeT_dWJCpRKqac29Xrst-qXdpyoOHIXc-Tlzynom8wP9Xmb5U10jzlyJqO7tgv0I7X7j47LnVIc9KnG9SpV8/s320/Photo+on+2011-02-13+at+09.20+%25233.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Side</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I think this is OK, but i look a bit pointy. Again, I don't know how to solve this issue so any feedback would be much appreciated. It's also clear from this picture that I need to lover the armhole, its far too tight as it is.</div><br />

<br />
I have, and its awful. I have only been buying Burda Style since August 2010, but I have eagerly bought every copy, because every month there is at least three patterns that I think I want to make and wear. But not this month.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkdTWjSd3lkbfbV0mf-bPJRhBzX0n5oddu7PeAM5hGHpqUNuIb9HX-jHUQw5ttxkKStaHby607l-kTTRWWpYHqSjQKEavpHJ5IAT8d215KXtK3vSRrdoz85KuJbHD8Bnx_xEmGIi0FjKY/s1600/Screen+shot+2011-02-12+at+22.50.26.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkdTWjSd3lkbfbV0mf-bPJRhBzX0n5oddu7PeAM5hGHpqUNuIb9HX-jHUQw5ttxkKStaHby607l-kTTRWWpYHqSjQKEavpHJ5IAT8d215KXtK3vSRrdoz85KuJbHD8Bnx_xEmGIi0FjKY/s320/Screen+shot+2011-02-12+at+22.50.26.png" width="237" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So what I'm going to do for this month is post the worst of Burda Style 03/2011. I am very sorry if you disagree with my choices, I'd love to be proven wrong on this issue.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I heard loads of bloggers mention the dress of Simplicity 2250, such as <a href="http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/">Gertie</a> helping to fit the complicated dress in her post <a href="http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2011/02/california-sewin.html">California Sewin'</a>.<br />
<br />
But the jacket really attracted me because I can wear it in Spring (when it finally arrives!) and the fabric I am making it it fits in with my <a href="http://www.colettepatterns.com/blog/colette-patterns-news/welcome-to-the-spring-palette-challenge">Colette Patterns Spring Palette</a> sewalong colours. I will be doing a separate post about that particular challenge.<br />
<br />
I bought the fabric in Amsterdam a few weeks ago for €10 for 3 metres, which I think was quite reasonable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5rLFz6ChDTwEQkG5mNpuv3ZnTix_o9FgoNxMEmzSneIp1rguSQdZ0CTUu0V4XG8u0MhSjfZnBdXxo5oVueWjGvbfDlSANImV6WXhjEQ39FzTyx-zfl41Km9IdPyPxev4G1h8upzkLm64/s1600/IMG_0902.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5rLFz6ChDTwEQkG5mNpuv3ZnTix_o9FgoNxMEmzSneIp1rguSQdZ0CTUu0V4XG8u0MhSjfZnBdXxo5oVueWjGvbfDlSANImV6WXhjEQ39FzTyx-zfl41Km9IdPyPxev4G1h8upzkLm64/s320/IMG_0902.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<br />
It's really crumpled because I stored it in a bag, and I am clearly too lazy to iron it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-xeGjcjiQolDTHW7bSdmxA9jBd8Aw3YzR0ADcxgCJ0onW79tIvlYN4xCSBESVzr_rfukK8_Ko5cDIrqNfcu74ksDdMNbMTiOxAGX1Q3DiQ1EAz0JP0yWaA9AW4mYVm9Dp95nOsQXY4vA/s1600/IMG_0907.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-xeGjcjiQolDTHW7bSdmxA9jBd8Aw3YzR0ADcxgCJ0onW79tIvlYN4xCSBESVzr_rfukK8_Ko5cDIrqNfcu74ksDdMNbMTiOxAGX1Q3DiQ1EAz0JP0yWaA9AW4mYVm9Dp95nOsQXY4vA/s320/IMG_0907.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>It's coming along OK, if a little slow. All I have to do now is put on the other sleeve, bind the edges and hem the sleeves. And iron it of course!<br />
<br />
Hopefully I'll be able to post a picture of the finished garment soon.<br />
<br />
Another UFO is this skirt from Burdastyle's <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/linda">Linda</a> circle skirt pattern. I have successfully made this skirt four times already, so there really is no excuse for not finishing it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgElv9fab7BW0NrO_yanEBnvc6eiGFqBWE4od_hggvy8N3iPy_xCLDdrh9a0oqaHMCBnS8GV1-rKxzbOghvupuu2JA5ALQJTQwSRm028PxKNkkdcPC92v-97C9vIRF0-QwcDc_fZv8MnKo/s1600/IMG_0920.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgElv9fab7BW0NrO_yanEBnvc6eiGFqBWE4od_hggvy8N3iPy_xCLDdrh9a0oqaHMCBnS8GV1-rKxzbOghvupuu2JA5ALQJTQwSRm028PxKNkkdcPC92v-97C9vIRF0-QwcDc_fZv8MnKo/s320/IMG_0920.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
Can you tell I have an issue with ironing.</div>Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-22563637653932954402011-01-29T17:10:00.001+00:002011-02-12T23:19:45.300+00:00Home Stretch Stripes<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I mentioned in the post 'Bad Blogger' that I sewed a top from Sew U: Home Stretch, so here it is:<br />
<br />
<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNA_giAdh80zVwSj7pXKlRIu18krr-To8rKoOZX4sAdZqRB1tl3vemsWttLsL7p8JsVuLRwCGth5PA2V2S9krUlZ1o2RVztFzt50sg4JwvMJE6sTBIpmZERJ_3jgqRIk1EwMmiEb1FmKI/s1600/Photo+48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNA_giAdh80zVwSj7pXKlRIu18krr-To8rKoOZX4sAdZqRB1tl3vemsWttLsL7p8JsVuLRwCGth5PA2V2S9krUlZ1o2RVztFzt50sg4JwvMJE6sTBIpmZERJ_3jgqRIk1EwMmiEb1FmKI/s320/Photo+48.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
</div><br />
<br />
I did the boatneck top, and I was pleased with how easy it was to 'draft' the pattern.<br />
<br />
I'm embarrassed to say that I made a mistake that I'm sure Is common among beginners; I didn't pretreat the fabric. I took this photo after it had been through it's first wash, and although I hope it isn't too obvious, it has clearly shrunk. The biggest problem is that it's now a little tight in the armholes.<br />
<br />
But despite the mistake, overall I am pleased with it.</div>Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-91906784955464536732011-01-27T01:26:00.000+00:002011-01-27T01:26:03.314+00:00Bad BloggerI think like many bloggers I have a problem with taking decent photographs. This is why there haven't been any posts recently.<br />
<br />
Things I haven't written about:<br />
<br />
1. I have finished three pairs of underwear to varying success.<br />
<br />
2. I went to Amsterdam and bought some lovely fabrics and notions.<br />
<br />
3. I made a knit top from Sew U Home Stetch that I'm pretty pleased with.<br />
<br />
4. I made the world's most baggy leggings, but still wear them all the time.<br />
<br />
5. I have loads of Finished Objects from last year, including my first pair of trousers.<br />
<br />
6. I am currently working on a blue jacket from the new Spring simplicity patterns.<br />
<br />
7. I am also working on yet another New Look 6723.<br />
<br />
But I hate posts without pictures, but I just can't work out how to put photos on blogger from an iPad. So apologies for the picture-free post.<br />
<br />
Do you ever have problems getting yourself to blog frequently? I'm still learning.Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-64758170242991229872011-01-20T07:00:00.001+00:002011-02-07T01:08:54.452+00:00The OTT Floral Dress - Photos of Me<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">These are the best photos that I could take, so please bear in mind that I'm using an laptop with Photo Booth, balancing it on a chair, and setting it on timer. So here are the photos of the dress on me: </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0D_nKDNRzEMhyNwlDKkffFA4yqdCnBJ6zZtZmhJF6rcJEEXRXynOR_BLzXHqs6ednC6fUr-6oM7Hbd2X6ua5GmQqtEUlJ2K-oLVL5Yf4Db9Ring4NOZmweLgid96nXHtQSVxRxNuRMg0/s1600/Photo+23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0D_nKDNRzEMhyNwlDKkffFA4yqdCnBJ6zZtZmhJF6rcJEEXRXynOR_BLzXHqs6ednC6fUr-6oM7Hbd2X6ua5GmQqtEUlJ2K-oLVL5Yf4Db9Ring4NOZmweLgid96nXHtQSVxRxNuRMg0/s320/Photo+23.jpg" width="314" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I added a cardigan to try to break up the headache-inducing floral pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHl6cELwAGmjA2bhhm-cTsGI-yD3Y_M6q2pZoNtFch3NDQWHZBFJQzfWFGz8l6x8YyrLh34uwX8EB0iABj13c6qsdacAOfFLpCf2ds_Ot1rrJjHEvEZCZggH9PQQxA7iK0-ADYRWT6q8k/s1600/Photo+33.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHl6cELwAGmjA2bhhm-cTsGI-yD3Y_M6q2pZoNtFch3NDQWHZBFJQzfWFGz8l6x8YyrLh34uwX8EB0iABj13c6qsdacAOfFLpCf2ds_Ot1rrJjHEvEZCZggH9PQQxA7iK0-ADYRWT6q8k/s320/Photo+33.jpg" width="245" /></a></div><br />
I think I like it more now than when I first made it. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to wear it outside yet because it's freezing in the UK right now, but hopefully I'll be wearing it when spring arrives.Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-65034739720184031792011-01-19T08:22:00.001+00:002011-01-19T17:12:38.979+00:00Planning for Resolution no5 - sewing my own underwear<div></div><div>From my sewing resolutions for 2011 I put:</div><div><br />

That's why this dress is called the OTT floral dress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSZpM2eFTsFsURkXBBxXdpr4xp6jK2fK0CVM_ZDU3ENr0GWT4rdFHrvyHEOsJSClL_pO4LjlzzqCJm5rzTHGn7g8-j1liQkDtfD8Ibb9hgZtJ4nGwXKnpvjzgGnsUqkUx_G03kTtPh3AE/s1600/IMG_0832.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSZpM2eFTsFsURkXBBxXdpr4xp6jK2fK0CVM_ZDU3ENr0GWT4rdFHrvyHEOsJSClL_pO4LjlzzqCJm5rzTHGn7g8-j1liQkDtfD8Ibb9hgZtJ4nGwXKnpvjzgGnsUqkUx_G03kTtPh3AE/s400/IMG_0832.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><br />

<br />
In the fabric shop the floral print looked great, and I was willing to look past the fact that it was quite a boring thin cotton. But as the dress began to take shape I became increasingly worried because its an awful lot of floral.<br />
<br />
This dress was a lot of firsts. First bodice lining. First sleeves. First gathered skirt.<br />
<br />
Altogether I reasonably pleased with how it turned out, if a little disappointed with the fabric choice.<br />
<br />
I will hopefully be posting a picture of me actually wearing it soon.Katherinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07065460039601613119noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8269882852587599224.post-60861004823455165542011-01-07T23:34:00.003+00:002011-01-12T10:41:14.720+00:00My Burda Style 02/2011 picks - The Preview<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There are lots of good choices in next month's Burda Style.</div>Here are my favorites:<br />
